"Rhinoceros horns are a coveted ingredient in traditional Eastern medicine and rumored to cure or fend off cancer, although scientists say there is no evidence to support the claim."
This past Thursday, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declares the Western Black Rhinoceros extinct in the wild. Humans kill off an entire species for false hopes to cure their own disgustingly over populated species. The horns are also used as an aphrodisiac... great more idiots breeding. I think they should just eat their own hair and fingernails, I'm sure it's just as effective.
But in the end money is most likely what it all boils down to. How many times have we seen this in the past? Entire populations of amazing creatures destroyed to sell their horns, feet, or hide. Their homes destroyed to harvest precious wood or plant crops in economic interest.
It makes me sick, and I know I am not innocent, none of us truly are, but I try my best to be conscientious about the other creatures sharing this planet with us. No matter how large or small, they play a vital roll. As we destroy, in the end we are only destroying ourselves. Even with those that have put so much time, energy, and effort into saving these creatures, it seems as if in the end none of it really matters. In the end, the greed ridden, the poachers, the money hungry, always seems to find a way.
Words and Stuff.
